I love everything about using my Ries J series tripod, except when I would crack my knuckles on the underside of my camera when adjusting the forward back tilt on the head. I decided that a little bit of leverage would solve this problem and I created a design for this samll key to give my fingers an assist.

The keys are made of a resin cast plastic that I have shaped, sanded and then applied 4 coats of a rubber tool dip. The key was made to fit the Ries J Series tripod and head hardware shown in these photos.

It has proved to be a simple and valuable tool for myself in the field. I use it on a short lanyard that I keep in my belt bag next to my meter. When I set the sticks down I hang it on one of the adjustment knobs where it's ready to go when I need it. With the front heavy load created by a racked out bellows, the forward back tilt is easy to snug down and release. It also comes in handy while doing a dance on a pile of rocks with an obnoxious leg spred. Just a quick twist gets you solid and saves the cursing when your composition starts to sag as you insert your holder. Working with gloves on is a non issue.
